Commonwealth Games Welcome Home Parade in Brisbane - Great Experience!!!

Guess wat did i do yesterday??? haha... i went to b a volunteer @ the Commonwealth Games Welcome Home Parade for Queensland Athletes... YEahz!!! is a great great experience as there wun be such opportunity in spore. i saw how the organisers ran around toking on walkie talkie to make sure tings r in place (reminds me the days when i was in charge of events... though mine small scale as compared lah... i miss the days... ).

in the morning, me and Tess went for it. we were nearly late but lucky bus was fast so we were ON time... heehee... then we noted our attendance. both of us were reserves, juz in case pple din turn up and we will take over. & our job will be disturb flags to the general public so tat they can wave as the parade goes on. then the person in charge came over to me and asked me to go over and hold on to a board for 1 of the athlete's name as i tink someone din turn up. so there i am, with the athlete's name "Ben Turner", standing in front of Vintage Car No. 23. well, tis parade is such tat the athletes will sit in their individual vintage cars and parade from start of Queen Street (supposely a pedestrain street) to end of George Street into Parliment House for public to take a look @ their favourite athletes. as the athletes arrived, we r suppose to start everything soon... then Ben Turner came over to my side & greeted me. well, it is their basic manners here that they will greet anyone before starting a conversation.

as Ben Turner toks to the driver of the vintage car... guess wat i did? yeahz!!! for the very very 1st time i held on to a Commonwealth Games GOLD medal!!! Ben is the gold medalist for the weight lifting event he took part. yeahz!!! the medal was heavy... is very well carved! is damn damn nice!!! really love the feel for it sia!!! yeahz!!!! haha....

after a short whilel, the parade started... & there i am, with the board with Ben's name on it. i had to hold it rite up so tat everyone can see his name. it was tiring job with my hand up rite... till now still a bit aching. haha... but is worth it!!! yeahz!!! & the crowd was very very supportive. they really love their athletes very much... someone whom they r so proud of... i saw lots of school kids with mini and big posters shouting out to names of athletes and stretching out hands to shake their fav's hands. many had strips of paper to ask for signatures. gosh.... i dun see all these in spore i guess. cos sporean arent tat supportive for such events after all. but tis is really the scene i wanna see and get involved in, how i wish i was like the kids, able to shout out to the names of my fav athletes. haha... i oso saw many adults (abt 50 to 60 yrs old) going after their fav athletes. heehee... in fact i saw 1 of the athlete whom i was rather familiar. she was the triathlete that won the GOLD medal for women's race. i was very touched and cried when i watched her race cos it was a splendid moment when she crossed the finishing line and everyone cheered for her! can u imagine, when u did something proud for the country, ur fellow country pple cheer for u??? tat is a SPECTACULAR moment i can be sure of! well, juz tat i had to be in position so i din go for her signature. but is good to see her cos she is really nice and friendly.

Yeahz!!! ** oh ya... see that red polo tee i wore??? u tink is free to me??? well, u r WRONG, so very the WRONG. I need to return the polo tee lor... so sad ah... thot can keep as momento... haiz... Tess & i decide to keep it for a longer while. if they called to ask for it, we will then make excuses tat we r too busy to return. will do so asap. haha... **

see tis? my worst nightmare ever ah!!! u noe how disgusting it is to drink chilli powder with water? i puked 2 times becos of this lor... i drank almost half a cup of chilli powder... really SUX ah!!! & tis is only Station 1!!! but for the sake of game, got to xi shen lah... haha... i can guarantee u tat it is really er xin ah!!! & when i suffering, my beloved team mate, Felicia took tis ugly photo of me lah... clever of her lor... haha...



Station 2 - Skit Performance... is abt a 4 to 5 pages skit whereby we need act out the different roles... me & Felicia took a break from this and only 4 others went on. see the guy in the photo, my poor fren, Philip. he acted the role tat required him to jump up and down.. lie on floor and roll... well, "advantage" of being the only guy in the team. haha...



On our way to Chinatown for the 2nd last station... have a break! have a photo taking session! heehee... here with me is Felicia, my basketball khaki (cos only gal who wanna play bball) cum badminton cum sporting events khaki... she is from malaysia, penang... on scholarship ohh... clever gal!!!

i am a lucky girl, being blessed with family warmth, peer support & emotional reliance & comfort...

haha... before my international calling card expire, i need to finish up the value ah... so i need to call home ah.

juz make 2 calls back to spore. called my parents 1st & had a half an hour chat with my mum. tok abt alot of tings like wat i do here and wat happen here & some daily issues. as many of u all noe, i dun stay with my parents back in spore so i oso seldom have chance to tok to them. i guess all these phone calls actually allow me to have more chances to tok to them and chat longer with them. my mum asked me take care of myself and asked me concentrate on studies, things r good in spore, ask me dun worry... heehee... juz simple words, i already feel very heart warming. as usual, my dad is very gan cheong to hear my voice but refuse to tok to me on phone, juz pass msg thru my mum. haha... my mum asked me if i am going back tis yr end. well, i oso not too sure. i really wanna stay and work here but i oso worry if i cannot find a job then how. so i oso cannot decide as yet. too many issues concerning whether to go back or not ba.. anyway, still long way... study 1st lah... haha...

2nd call was to my auntie and grandma. however, as i called too late, my grandma sleep liao. well, so spoke to my auntie ah. tok abt daily issues oso lor. well, not much oso but she asked me when is my convocation cos my uncle wanna bring my cousins along if it happen to be during their sch hols. hmm... seriously, i oso dunno wor... need check it out 1st. heehee... it will b great if all of them can come and i can bring them around ah... yeahz!!!

told my mum and aunt tat i did the Hakka dish tat day & it was not a success. they both laughed and gave me some more tips abt how to make it better. hmm... when i am in even better mood, i will try and do it again. is such a time consuming dish but i juz wanna make it perfect. hopefully i can do a better job the 2nd time! yeahz!!!

feel blessed at tis moment... cos i noe i have family support back in spore whom i can always always rely on no matter wat happen and whenever. i am nv alone cos i have my family with me mentally all the time. we may not express out but the family ties is definitely there. how lucky i am to have such wonderful family & my bonus is i have a grp of friends who will b there for me whenever i need them. life had been good for me all these while blessing me with family and friends & small small priceless feelings and moments which money can never buy... i am indeed a lucky girl... i will treasure and cherish all these... not taking anyting for granted, i promise!

Hakka Dish - Abacus Seed "算盘子"

forget to include tis in previous entry... haha... i finally make the Hakka Dish - Abacus Seed "算盘子".

last fri, i dun have sch so i decide to make it with the recipe i gotten from grandma.

i tink it has the look and smell of how grandma cooked. but it does not have the taste and chewy feeling... i dun tink is a succeed leh... haiz... sad... 1st time make and end up not success. and is a damn tiring process. i stood in kitchen from 10am to 3.30pm to make it. though not success, still i quite proud of myself for able to make it cos usually i see grandma do it. haha... anyway, took some photos to show my end result. heehee...

had a fruitful week... where shall i start leh? maybe from wed ba... i had my 1st job interview on wed. heehee... it was a chinese restaurant. however, i tink they wun hire me cos they haven't call me till now... :( anyway, shall wait and continue apply ba... nv knew tat applying job here can be so difficult ah... haiz... sad...

on thurs, i went for badminton session with my frens. haha... it was fun and we played for more than an hr. by right, we only book for 1 hr but nvm lah. is damn exp to rent a badminton court here lor. so muz fully utilised it. yeahz!!! oh ya! commonwealth games started in melbourne. i am able to watch it here on national TV channel. i tink the opening ceremony was really cool with the new idea of passing the torch via Yarra River instead of normal running along the road. simply unique and wonderful!!! heehee... but Ian Thorpe, my fav swimmer from aussie din participate... haiz... sad manz...

on fri, i went out with my frens to Singapura (a chinese restuarant in aussie) to have dinner cos is my friends' bday. the food is damn nice esp the chicken rice... haha... yeahz!!! then after dinner, we went to brisbane's casino as bday boy wanna try luck. haha... my 1st time into casino... as wat i expected but still quite nice lah... had a look around and saw how pple play the games. seems nice but really hard to win one lah... end up my fren oso lose AUD$100 lor... haiz... fated lah... poor boy but for experience ba...

then on sat, i went for UQ Amazing Race!!! yeahz... did alot of tings... alot of my 1st time in aussie... 1st time vomitting in aussie cos i added 2 full mouthful of chilli powder plus water. it is damn disgusting and er xin!!! i vomitted twice and still feeling very bad. really er xin ah!!! but for the game, gota eat lor. haiz... poor me ah... then i did a public performance with my teammates in order to earn $1 to complete our task. it was damn embarrassing when i was announcing to get everyone's attention but is really fun cos is only in aussie tat i will do all these ba... haha... anyway, we manage complete our task quite fast lor... not bad leh!!! heehee... then went around brisbane to complete the task. basically quite easy. and i really had fun... leg aching from running around but still fun!!! at least now i noe how the flag of Queensland state look like... haha... (shall upload photos once i get them from my friends. took some photos along the way when we are travelling. heehee...)

then after Amazing Race, when i went home. i was dead tired. wanna eat, bath and do work then sleep early for next morning's basketball session. however, end up my 2 guy frens came to my house for dinner and asked if me and my housemates wanna go KTV. so ended up, we went to KTV when we gather abt 7 pple. aiyo!!! no need do work and keep playing. i am super tired but when i heard it is KTV... heehee... i became alert again. yeahz!!! so there we r, 1st KTV session in aussie... haaahaa.. the songs r very nice and quite updated. back in spore, no one wanna sing... now tat here, all my frens like to sing so much lor... for 4 hrs, i tink i sang abt 4 to 5 songs only ba. haha... but i really had fun cos so long nv sing wor... heehee...

PS: juz had a 1 hour long chat with my spice buddies in spore... i miss them so so much... feel so so happy to hear their voice... is a gathering dinner to celebrate lin and jas' bday. they went to eat japanese buffet with lots of nice desserts... keep tempting me... qi si wo le!!! haha... great toking to them... how i wish i can be there with them too... haiz...
