wat a close shave... *phew*

shoulder to shoulder with a turning bus.. can u imagine how close the distance is? juz 1 more step out, i tink i shld be lying somewhere in the hospital. hmm.. dun mean to post an entry to scare everyone but juz wanna warn everyone to BE CAREFUL when crossing the road ah! dun tink of anything else other than crossing the road safely. i always pay attention when i am crossing the road but juz now i tink i was tinking abt something else. i got distracted and i din notice there was a turning bus and i juz walked out on to the road. i was sort of pushed away back to the platform by the turning bus and the driver had to stop to check if i was okay. tat was how close i was to being knocked down in the middle of Brisbane city. now as i tink back, is damn scary... really a close shave...

the world of Children...

heehee.. i saw a very lovely photo on my cousin's blog so i decided to 'kop' her photo and write an entry on children... wonder did my little niece, Lynnette forgotten all abt me ah? hopefully when i am back in spore, she will be able to recognise me as her 'Ah Yee' and we can have fun together. miss her voice calling out to me ah... haiz... basically, i miss all the little ones.. my younger cousins, my nieces and my nephew.

seriously for me, kids can juz brighten up my day. no matter how badly i am feeling, how upset i am feeling, how moody i am, how tired i can get, as long as i am playing with the kids, i am all okay once again! their smile, their laughter, their actions.. all these r enough to make me smile and laugh till i can forget abt every unhappy issue. at least for tat moment, i noe i have some kind of assurance and peacefulness with the kids. i still remembered when i was here during my 2nd semester, i went to volunteer at a local children and women hospital as patient buddy. basically is to go to the hospital and act as playing companions for the kids. once a week, 8am to 12pm at the specialist clinic, i will push my trolley full of toys and books around the clinic to entertain all the little ones who r there with their parents, waiting to see the doctor. sometimes the long wait can make them impatient and cranky. my job is to make their waiting time seems less annoying. well-equipped with all the toys and books, often the kids had a good time while waiting for their turn to see the doctor. before they go into the room to see the doc, they will come by and return the toys and say 'thank u' to me. once in a while i will encounter really lovely kids who will surprise me with their actions. there was once a little boy juz hugged me after placing the toys back into my trolley. i was totally stunned by his action and i felt so warmth at heart. the other incident was that a little boy ran up to drop off the toys and ran off. then juz few mins later, he ran back to me and said "thank u", smile and ran off again. gosh~!!! my heart seriously melted when these little ones show so much appreciation. in fact, after every session i had, i felt very grateful to them. cos if not for them, i wun have such a good time playing around and juz relax my mind... i certainly look forward to every possible chance to juz let go and play with the little ones. is a kind of satisfaction tat no amt of money can buy and it juz take tat little effort to be able to tink in their way, be in their world and act as one of them. :)

so much of talking.. is pictures' time again... is all abt my little angel niece, Lynnette...

Lynnette & her usual smilely face...
*pic 'kop' from her Winnie 'Gu-Gu' webby*

tink tis set of clothes i bought it for Lynnette abt 1.5yrs ago.. before i went back to spore, i headed down to Kmart to buy some children's clothes for my nieces (no nephew then).. i spent like abt 2hrs choosing the clothes with a few mothers around me choosing clothes for their kids. haha..

1.5yrs later.. i saw tis pic on my cousin's webby! hahaha... Lynnette is wearing the Orange-strips dress for the 1st time... finally she is tall enough to wear it. heehee.. looks good on her, yeahz! Her 'Ah-Yee', me has such good taste ah! hahaha...

i have more surprises set up for my little angels when i get back to spore. no matter how heavy my luggage will be, pressies for the kids will be a MUST MUST to get. :D

very fruitful and exciting weekend..

very hectic weekend for me but i really had fun. juz moments after i kind of finished up my thesis, whole lot of fun and activities for me to unwind before i start to get busy with the proof reading, binding and misc stuff for the thesis submission. & all the relaxing moments for me would not be possible without the presence of pple from back home, Singapore. it was such a coincidence that two of my friends, Jennifer and Jasmine r in Brisbane on the very same day! haha... so i got to get out of the house to relax and to meet up with them. felt so blessed all of the sudden ah. juz when i need some breather, pple from Singapore r here.. felt the warmth, felt the closeness and felt the happiness..

Jennifer, my poly classmate was here for her job. haha.. she is an air stewardess from SIA and this is a 1-day turnaround flight for her in Brisbane. so i met her on Friday for a dessert-lunch at my favourite place, Freestyle Tout. she wanna try something different from her usual Pancakes so i brought her to Freestyle. she is a chocolate and dessert lover so it was juz nice for her. hahaha.. hope she had a good time enjoying the yummy dessert. :D

Jennifer & I @ Freestyle on a Friday afternoon.. not much crowd at all.. nice ah...

then in the evening i went to meet up with Jasmine, my pri sch fren since i was 7 years old and her BF, Lian Cheng. Jasmine looked kinda shagged but i guess is becos of the long travel from SIN to Melbourne to Gold Coast then to Brisbane. & of cos i always enjoy the moments when i get to see familiar faces from back home when i am in Brisbane. my 1st instinct is always to hug the person! hahaha..
walked with the couple to their accommodation at Milton to check in and we waited at the apartment for Jasmine's friends who will reach at a later timing as they went to Movieworld. so three of us had a chat in the apartment and i was telling them whatever i knew abt Brisbane and its surrounding to provide them with more info abt their travel. sort of as a host, i hope to provide useful details for them ah... :D
upon the arrival of Jasmine's friends, we set off to somewhere in Taringa for Mexican food. woohoo!!! my 2nd visit to the restaurant. i remembered that last sem, i went with friends to celebrate a friend's bday and i really enjoyed the food. so tis time round, since the grp wanna try something different and specifically said NO fish and chips or pizza so i juz brought them to try Mexican Food. it was a long wait even when i booked the table. however the service was really good. they r attentive and very sincere in their service. the starter of Nachos was really yummy! is served warm and the sauce is juz so rich and delicious. they were saying tat it was very different from wat they ate previously so i guess they shld have like it. hahaha.. all our main course were yummy. though the menu was full of varieties and we had a hard time choosing, at the end we all managed to order the really yummy ones. so all was good. hahaha... here r the yummilicious food:

some beef wrap with mashed up kidney beans and rice..

the Mexican Chicken with mashed kidney beans and rice...

interesting combination of pineapple, banana and some meat with rice..
with bottles of local beer... we started our feast! hahaha...

on sat, i decided to stay home to finish up my thesis before i send to my aunt for proof reading. so while the grp went to Sunshine Coast, i stayed home. i joined them on sun to be their tour guide for the day. went to look for them at somewhere near to their accommodation in Milton. it was really good that they stayed so near to where i lived. really convenient via a direct bus ride. after their breakfast at coffee club, i took them on a short walk to Regatta Citycat Ferry stop to take city cat and have a river tour along Brisbane river. as we r cruising along the river, i tried to explain whatever i know. after abt an hr ride to and fro, we decided to alight at Riverside for the weekend market. the gals had fun as they managed to grab a few cheap bargains. hahaha... personally i oso quite like Riverside market. is big and full of varieties... yeahz!

after the market, i brought them on a short walk to the city centre, Queen Street. we had a bite at KFC. hahaha.. juz as i expected, their comments abt Aussie KFC is very same as mine, it seriously taste better than Spore's. :D then we carried on our tour. crossing Victoria Bridge to South Bank. they took alot of photos along the bridge and at South Bank. esp at South Bank, with Brisbane city as skyline, they had their 1st ever Brisbane Jump shot. haha.. i hope my photography skill was okay ah. hahaha... after the walk around Southbank and its market, we set off to the train station and took a train back to their accommodation to take the car so tat we can drive off to enjoy some yummy dessert and nite view at Mount Cootha.

2 days in a row, i visited Freestyle, ate the same dessert but with a different grp of pple. seriously till now, for every person i brought to Freestyle, all of them enjoyed their dessert. tat's a good sign, isn't it? hahaha... anyway, we ordered three different dessert to share and i'm glad tat they like my recommendations. heehee.. then from Freestyle in Valley, we drove to Mount Cootha for a nite view. it was damn cold la & my navigation was not tat good along the road sia. juz too long nv visit Mount Cootha and we had to make detour. so paiseh sia cos everyone so tired liao. but at least we got up there. is dark and cold so after some photo taking, we headed down to Milton for dinner. heehee.. they booked a table at the Italian restaurant which I recommended. we ordered the 1m long pizza comprises of 4 different types and two different type of pasta to share. it was a very FULL dinner! heehee... i hope a satisfying one for them too.

some photos which i took in my camera. most of the photos r taken with their cameras so it will be a while before i get to see any of them.

Jasmine & I on board the citycat...

our self-taken shot along Victoria Bridge...

Jasmine & Lian Cheng along Victoria Bridge with Brisbane skyline...

Freestyle Dessert..

left to rite: Flourless Chocolate Cake, Raspberries Dumpling, Apple Crumble..

Jasmine @ Mount Cootha...

finally... when is time to say Goodbye to them, i felt quite sad. i held on to Jasmine's hand and i could felt the sudden sadness. they thank me for bringing them around. i muz thank them for giving me the opportunity to go around and relax. they went back to Spore today and i certainly hope they had fun in Australia. as for me, not only did i had the opportunity to enjoy, but also made a few new friends. hahaha... now it make me really look forward to my brother and sis-in-law's visit to Brisbane in abt 2 weeks' time and my cousin's visit during my convocation. :D

Labels for my entries from now on...

whahaha... i finally found out how to categorise my entries! as i was browsing my cousin, Seow Wai's new blog. i decided to look at her blog's source coding and try to rearrange into mine. heehee... finally i managed to add in some label and Categories... woohoo~ in tis way, my blog entries can be more organised with the specific categories. & tis give me an additional task to do after i finish my thesis. yeah.. something to pass time la cos by then i shld be rotting away till the time to travel and for my convo and head back Singapore. my additional task is to: Classify ALL my past entries into the various categories as set. wow! BIG task sia... cos i have over 400 entries la!!! whahaha...

alrighty! back to studies now after spending a few hours on organising my blog layout. i am very excited now cos i am finally at the concluding chapter... soon.. my entry on the thots for my thesis will b up. can't wait for tat faithful day ah! heehee...

Art of Groceries Shopping

ha.. tis is the 480th entry of my blog.. wow.. sounds like alot of entries ah...

yeah.. back to today's topic.. 'art of groceries shopping'. groceries shopping is part and parcel of overseas student life in Aussie. for every overseas student who need to settle their own meals, i think most of them will agree with wat i said. groceries shopping here dun refer to buying of snacks and junk food only. is the actual groceries shopping where most of our mothers will do. yep! in spore, my grandma will go to wet markets to do her groceries and sometimes when supermarkets have good offers, she will b there to grab the bargain too. as for us here, we r doing wat our grandma and mothers r doing. buying meat, vege, fruits, bread, rice, etc to settle our daily meals. and i muz say all of us students have different way of doing our groceries shopping and it is actually a leisure to look at how innovative pple can be. wat i referring to is the essential 'tools' pple will bring along for their groceries shopping..

trolley suitcase: juz a small one of cos. haha.. tis is a very typical tool to be used by many students, esp the girls. cos they are unable to carry such heavy stuff, so they will put all their stuff in the suitcase and pull it along the way home. last week, i juz saw a girl who was pulling a suitcase out of the supermarket and guess wat's in there? well.. is a 10kg rice. haha... smart girl ah!

environmental bags: very common practice here.. almost everyone who r out for groceries shopping will be equipped with two or three environmental bags. other than being environmental friendly, environmental bags r more reliable than plastic bags here. as plastic bags here r so thin, may torn any time. i have an environmental bag too. i bought it during my NZ trip to put my food stuff along my travel. till date, tis bag is my best partner for groceries shopping. it is actually a chiller bag so juz nice for me to put my wet stuff.

backpack: who will use backpack to buy groceries leh? me lor! haha.. my Deuter bag has been my faithful partner for alomost every of my groceries shopping trip. other than taking up the task as a laptop bag, it is a groceries shopping bag too. haha... i will try to squeeze watever i can into the backpack and try to squeeze only dried stuff. sometimes when i am crazy, i juz squeeze the whole loaf of bread into the bag. often the bread will be out of shape! but nvm la, i am eating mah. out of shape, still can eat ah. but i guess tis squeezing of stuff into bag has became a practice for me. when i went back to Spore previously, i bought a loaf of bread from NTUC. guess wat? i squeeze it into my bag. when i went home, my aunt and grandma were laughing at the loaf of bread which was totally out of shape. hahaha...

plastic bags: sometimes pple juz rely on the normal plastic bags given. is possible but when u have to take a bus, go up and down the bus with so many plastic bags is juz so clumsy. if the bus is FULL, seriously bless u ah. other than balancing urself in the fast moving vehicle, u have many plastic bags to grab onto ah. i tink is still better to 'strategize' when we r going for groceries.. esp for pple like me who shop like once every 2 to 3 weeks, & thus alot of stuff to buy. if i rely on plastic bags, i tink my hands will b numb at the end of each shopping trip. haha...

of cos those tat i mention above r for pple who has no cars. some students will have an easier time when they go for groceries shopping with their cars. previously, when Huiying, Tess and I rented a car for our oad trip, we did our groceries shopping with the car too. gosh~! is so much easier and groceries shopping is no longer a torture! haha.. cos we dun have to carry the heavy stuff such as 2 litre of milk, vege, meat, bread, etc to take a bus and walk to our house from bus stop. with a car, juz dump everything into the car boot. once reach home, juz unload all the stuff. tat's so swift and easy! of cos, i dun have such luxury all the time so i got to make use of watever i have to lighten my load. at times, i will oso take advantage of pple's car. haha... still rem how i got my 5kg of rice home. all thanks to James who was driving his car then. he advise me to get a 5kg packet of rice since he will be driving each of us home. and tis pack of rice is still with me till now as i usually dun eat much rice. haha.. i tink juz nice to last till end of tis sem.

anyway, the days of groceries shopping shld be over soon. real soon.. i wonder will i miss the times when i get back to Spore? haha..

Great Nite Out with movie, dinner, dessert & lovely friends...

alrighty! my blog is totally revived! haha.. i try to keep up with constant updating before i stArt to lose my faithful grp of audience. but maybe i try to cut down on wordy entries as it is really kinda tedious to write a long entry (unless special reason) after facing the long thesis write up almost every day.

however, last evening, i took a break from the thesis research and went on a movie cum dinner & dessert gathering with Philip, Felicia and Joyce. it was a totally great nite out with a GREAT movie of Ironman, yummilicious dinner, @ a Korean BBQ restaurant and fulfilling dessert @ my all time fav, Freestyle. definitely the company plays a big big role in completing my evening... non-stop chatting and laughter abt everything and anything... i tink once in a while all these will juz brighten up my day and relax my mind and get my attention away from the studies...

anyway, back to today's topic. 1stly, the movie is really worth watching. highly recommended by everyone and to me, it was up to my expectation. i nv knew "steel hero" can be so agile in their movement. & the actor is quite good looking as in his eyes can speak! haha... okok, i muz say i dun have weird fantasy for mature looking guys, juz tat i admire pple with really lovely eyes. is like those eyes that can speak to u. :D

after movie, dinner @ Seoul Sunny or Sunny Seoul? diff kind of Korean food from wat i usually go for in the city. tis time round is BBQ instead of the regular hot plate soupy stuff. very much like the Korean BBQ which Chien Yuan brought me to in Perth. overall, the food is yummy and the portion is juz nice. i am not a person who love to eat beef but i seriously love the charcoal marinated beef! is really delicious... and the ox tongue din really taste weird but very chewy. hahaha...

while waiting for the meat to be cooked, a snapshot on my dinner khaki, Philip & Felicia. & tat silly Phil la, dun wanna show face so use a piece of ox tongue to cover his face... Feli nicer to show a smile with a piece of TOFU! heehee...

Charcoal marinated beef & Ox Tongue... i love the beef!!!

Pork ribs & Chicken in spicy sauce...

some side dishes to go with the main course.. mainly vege and kimchi to balance up the taste...

the meat nicely laid onto the hot grill...

kimchi vege soup... juz rite for pple who dun like spicy soup base...

wooo... when the meat r almost done... and the pple helped us change the grill for dunno how many times ah...

Sho-Ju.. Korean wine... though juz 19% alcohol but is damn strong ah... juz 1 shot and i cannOt take it liao...

after dinner, we decided to go for dinner. so we called Joyce who shld be off work. & we headed to my all time favourite and forever missed dessert heaven, Freestyle!!!! yiippeee!!!! my 1st visit to Freestyle since i'm back in Brisbane. will try to go as many as times as i can before i go back spore ah!!!!
raspberry dumplings with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream... juz the rite choice for non chocolate fanatic...

nutting can goes wrong with tis... Flourless Chocolate Cake... simply indulgence!!!

White Chocolate Cheesecake... my other fav... but seems tat standard for tis has drop a bit... mmmm...

pardon me with the blur photos as it was taken with my hp. hahaha... act forget to bring camera out ah. ok then.. back to studies nOw after all these updates...

spice up our life...

guess with overseas student life, we have gradually learn to be easily contented with watever we have in life. y do i say so? well, when life is always so routine and without much colours here, little action and surprise will be able to spice up our life. be it the giver or receiver.. we will feel some warmth, colour and happiness..

presented to u is a bouquet of lovely flowers sitting beautifully and comfortably in my living/dining room. it has definitely brought some colours into our small unit here and has taken away the usual stillness and dullness. it is a birthday pressie shared among my housemates, Grace & Rachel and myself for our German housemate, Katherina as it is her birthday tomolo! Happy Birthday, Kat! :D

so much of this said here.. shall get back to my work now.. few weeks to end of journey.. i will hang on!

as simple as possible

mmm.. finally.. a new blogskin for my blog.. was rather lazy previously in changing the blogskin. but i am kinda sick of having a black background for the blog so decided to look for some light colours.

tis design is really very simple which suits my thinking as of current. now i am trying to keep everything as simple and easygoing as it can be. i need no further complications as my only objective (complete my THESIS) now is already exciting and challenging enough to give me constant heart-attack and headache..

a day of relaxation...

Tis weekend is the Buddha Festival celebrations in Brisbane. I never had chance to go for the celebrations for the previous 2 years so this year, I was thinking of going down for a look at this event which had been going on for years.

the event was pretty interesting and rather grand as the celebrations was held over quite a large area at Southbank area along the Brisbane River. there were many Chinese arts and cultural stuff for exhibit, there was a kids' art and crafts section and a area for pple to take photos with costumes for traditional Chinese wedding. of cos, there were many stalls selling Asian food. on top of that, we were in time to watch some wushu performances and hip-hop dance performances which were rather entertaining overall it was quite a grand event celebrated by not only the Buddhists but by many other pple. I tink the Aussies shld be pretty interested in Asians' cultures and customs.

after the festival, Grace & I went to walk around Southbank weekend market as I wanna try something which i had been eyeing for quite a while. heehee... tat is TATTOO!!! heehee... daring yeahz?

after selecting the design, the sticker was stick on my leg for the rite position...

the look before the tattoo-ing starts...

yippee!!! is all DONE! heehee... so now i have a TATTOO! on my ankle... yeahz!
hmm... anyway, did i mention tat tis tattoo will only last for abt 1 week. hahaha... ya la.. is temporary tattoo la... :D

a video on how painless the whole tattoo-ing process is...

as for the dinner today... we went to city for Korean food. quite miss the hotplate korean food ah...

before dinner, a small dessert. heehee.. my all time fav - 'wicked banana': chocolate in banana...

appetitizer: Seafood Pancake... fresh seafood...
*fiona, r u drooling over tis?*

main dish: the Korean HOTPLATE! ingredients included r: fishcake, tofu, pork, clear noodles, lots of vege.. spicy and yummy! simply love it!

had fun today, back to work again. is time to continue my thesis ah... reviewing the questionnaire is quite fun ah.. cos the ans r rather interesting.

5-minute management course

juz saw an email which i tink is pretty interesting.. do have a look:

Title of the email: a 5-minute management course

Lesson 1: A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up hershower, when the doorbell rings. The wife quickly wraps herself in a toweland runs downstairs. When she opens the door, there stands Bob, thenext-door neighbor. Before she says a word, Bob says, 'I'll give you $800 to drop that towel.' After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked infront of Bob. After a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 and leaves. The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs. When she getsto the bathroom, her husband asks, 'Who was that?' 'It was Bob, the next-door neighbor,' she replies. 'Great!' the husband says. 'Did he say anything about the $800 he owesme?'
Moral of the story: If you share critical information pertaining to creditand risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position toprevent avoidable exposure.

Lesson 2: A priest offered a nun a lift. She got in and crossed her legs, forcingher gown to reveal a leg. The priest nearly had an accident. Aftercontrolling the car, he stealthily slid his hand up her leg. The nun said, 'Father, remember Psalm 129?' The priest removed his hand. But, changing gears, he let his hand slide upher leg again. The nun once again said, 'Father, remember Psalm 129?' The priest apologized, 'Sorry, Sister, but the flesh is weak.' Arriving at the convent, the nun sighed heavily and went on her way. On his arrival at the church, the priest rushed to look up Psalm 129. Itsaid, 'Go forth and seek, further up, you will find glory.'
Moral of the story: If you are not well informed in your job, opportunities for advancement will pass right by you.

Lesson 3: A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunchwhen they find an antique oil lamp. They rub it and a Genie comes out. The Genie says, 'I'll give each of you just one wish.' 'Me first! Me first!' says the admin clerk. 'I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.' Puff! She's gone. 'Me next! Me next!' says the sales rep. 'I want to be in Hawaii , relaxingon the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladasand the love of my life.' Puff! He's gone. 'OK, you're up,' the Genie says to the manager. The manager says, 'I want those two back in the office after lunch.'
Moral of the story: Always let your boss have the first say.

Lesson 4: An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing. A small rabbit sawthe eagle and asked him, 'Can I also sit like you and do nothing?' The eagle answered, 'Sure, why not.' So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of asudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.
Moral of the story: To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

Lesson 5: A turkey was chatting with a bull. 'I would love to be able to get to thetop of that tree,' sighed the turkey, 'but I haven't got the energy.' 'Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?' replied the bull.'They're packed with nutrients.' The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enoughstrength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, aftereating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top ofthe tree. He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of thetree.
Moral of the story: Bull shit might get you to the top, but it won't keepyou there.

Lesson 6: A little bird was flying south for the Winter. It was so cold the birdfroze and fell to the ground into a large field. While he was lying there,a cow came by and shit on him. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realizehow warm he was. The dung was actually thawing him out! He lay there allwarm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following thesound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptlydug him out and ate him.
Morals of the story:
1. Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy.
2. Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.
3. And when you're in deep shit, it's best to keep your mouth shut!

THIS CONCLUDES THE 5-MINUTE MANAGEMENT COURSE.
